We run a wide variety of adult classes for all skill levels, from people who have always dreamed to sail but have never had the opportunity al the way up to seasoned racers who are looking to improve their skills. Here are a few facts about the classes in general, followed by details on each of the programs currently offered.
Our Programs
The "Invitation-To-Sail" is designed for those new to sailing who would just like a little taste of what it is like to be out in a sailboat. This will be a one session class designed to introduce the student to sailing to decide if it is something they would like to pursue. The class is offered on a scheduled basis in a group format or it can be taken as a private lesson at a mutually convenient time.
"Adult Learn-To-Sail" is where you come to get started with your dreams of sailing! It is designed for those who are new to sailing or have little experience. This class will teach basics of sailing, boat handling, crewing, and water safety. There will be an instructor on every boat and their will be an emphasis for getting every person at the helm as much as possible.
"Adult Intermediate Sailing" is for those students who have done some sailing before and are comfortable with all the basic skills. The class will help students improve their technique, as skippers and crew, including more advanced boat handling and sail trim. Whenever possible we will try to get sailors on different boats if they have a preference.
"Introduction to Racing" is the class to take for anyone who is interested in getting involved with racing. The class will teach students the basic concepts of racing, what is expected of race crew, and will give students the opportunity to try some races with experienced skippers at the helm. Sailboat racers are always interested in finding crew for the Clubs Wednesday and Sunday races, so we will work with students after the class to help them find a boat to start crewing on if you are so inclined.
"Strategic and Tactical Racing" is designed for those people who are already racing and are interested in improving their skills in a small coached environment. Where possible, we hope that racing teams will take the course together in their own boats so that the skills are directly applied to their own racing. The class will cover topics such as starts, beats, reaching and running, finishes, tactics and strategy.
